There are several avenues that may be pursued when requiring help, depending on the type of problem if  you are a member of Dorchester Educators.

A contract violation is usually the easiest to resolve. Sometimes just pointing it out to the offender the specific article of the contract that is being violated is enough to correct the problem.  If that does not work, then contact the UniServ Director  (Click on this and it moves to address at bottom of page) immediately.  All grievances must be filed within 15 days of the incident. He will meet with you to discuss the grievance procedure and represent you throughout the whole procedure.

If it is a school wide problem, the Building Rep will often meet with the DE members at the school and then bring it to the attention of the offender and/or the DE President. Many issues such as loss of planning time have been resolved without grievances being filed through meetings between the DE President and the Superintendent.  Even so, the grievance procedure is the only method specifically designed and guaranteed to deal with contract violations.  Refer to Article 14.

Another avenue is the Administrative Appeal Process, which is used to deal with job-related issues such as evaluations, disciplinary actions and the work calendar.  The UniServ Director files these appeals on your behalf and works with the MSTA lawyers.  Appeals must be filed within 30 days of the incident.

For any and all serious problems, contact your UniServ Director immediately.
